The Universal App Quick Start Program includes all the tools, resources, and support you need to build next-generation Universal apps, optimize apps built with Mac Catalyst, and test iPhone and iPad apps on an Apple Silicon Mac.

External Graphics Processors macOS includes support for external graphics processors (eGPUs) connected using Thunderbolt 3. External graphics processors can bring additional performance to your professional apps, 3D games, VR content creation pipelines, and more. Use Metal, OpenGL and OpenCL to integrate full support for eGPU into your app. The Developer Transition Kit is a prototype ARM-based Macintosh computer announced by Apple on June 22, 2020 as part of its initiative to transition its Macintosh personal computer product line away from Intel's x64 architecture to Apple Silicon.

Apple Egpu Developer Kit For Macbook

I am interested in getting an external GPU to connect to my macbook pro so that I can train my keras models faster.


I am using tensorflow as a backend to keras, so I know that it requires a CUDA enabled GPU (so I would have to use a NVIDIA gpu).

Has anyone tried to use their Nvidia (cuda enabled gpu) with High Sierra? Does it work with out any messing around?


Any recommendations on a starter (not too expensive) eGPU for this use case? Any employees at Apple in the ML team have any advice?

I am pretty new to machine learning and have never used an eGPU so would appreciate any advice, recommendations or corrections to my statements above.


I know that there are rental options offered by Amazon and Google, but would prefer to buy my own eGPU.
